What To Expect and the Finer Details

When to Schedule your Newborn Session

I highly recommend reaching out to secure your Newborn Session when you are around 6 months along.  Earlier if you would like a Maternity Session too!  I only book a limited number of due dates per month to allow flexibility for when babies are born early (or late), so securing your session early does help ensure I still have spots open when you reach out.

That being said I do try to accommodate one or two last minute bookings per month when possible!

How old should my newborn be for the session?

Somewhere between 8 and 18 days old usually works really well!

That being said, there are exceptions!  I take into account all of the following:  whether baby was born early or late, babies birth weight (and weight at the time of the session), if there were any labor complications, jaundice and other concerns!

In-Home Newborn Sessions can absolutely be done outside of the 8-18 day old window, however, that does seem to be the 'sweet spot'.

SESSION DETAILS

Lifestyle In-Home Newborn Sessions are a great option for:

-Families with multiple children (especially toddlers and young children) since it allows your other children

to remain comfortable in their own environment.

-Anyone that wants more of a relaxed documentary story-telling vibe for your Newborn Session.

-Families that aren't fond of a studio setting and want to show off their home's aesthetic!  

In-Home Sessions typically last about an hour to an hour and a half.  We allow plenty of breaks for diaper changes, topping off baby if needed,  snuggles, etc!  Sessions are baby led.  Meaning we take our cues from your little one to ensure babies comfort and safety throughout the session.  

Even Newborns have a rough day every now and then.  If your little one absolutely isn't having it on the day of their session, please do not stress.  There are options and I will walk you through all of them!

Does it matter if my home is not picture perfect?

NOPE!  I do use mostly natural light during these sessions, so it is PREFERRED if your home has several areas that have great natural lighting from multiple or large windows (especially the living area, master bedroom, and babies nursery).  It is not a requirement though.

We all have real lives and I understand that homes are not always 'magazine perfect'.

As long as you have several rooms with decent lighting and ample room to move around, we can work with that.
